Handmade rugs are heirloom pieces. Proper care ensures they retain their luster and structure for generations.
Blot immediately: Never rub a liquid spill. Rubbing pushes the staining agent deeper into the fibers. Immediately press clean, white cotton towels on the spill to absorb liquid.
Dry Cleaning: For tough stains like coffee, red wine, or pet marks, seek professional dry cleaning specializing in oriental/handmade rugs. Avoid local steam cleaning machines.
Pure Jute/Hemp: Natural fiber rugs are highly sensitive to moisture. Never soak or wash jute rugs. If damp, dry immediately using fans or sunlight.
New Zealand Wool: Shedding is normal in the first 4-8 weeks. Standard vacuuming will control this. Wool has natural wax (lanolin) protection, making cleaning simpler if stains are blotted fast.
